From plastic to products

Circular economy

The circular economy is a sustainable development model designed to minimize waste by continuously promoting the reuse and recycling of materials.

For recycled plastic products, this approach is essential to reducing the use of natural resources and lowering environmental impact.

The goal is to transition from a linear model (production, use, disposal) to a closed-loop system, where materials are recovered, transformed, and reintegrated into production processes. This system not only reduces pollution but also helps create a more resilient economy that is less dependent on finite resources.

The 5 R’s of Recycling

Reduce

Limit resource consumption and waste production.

Reuse

Give new life to used products instead of discarding them.

Recycle

Design products to be easily recyclable or repairable.

Repair

Extend the lifespan of objects through maintenance and repair.

Redesign

Transform waste materials into new products.

PET Recycling

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) recycling is crucial, as plastic bottle pollution is one of the most significant contributors to plastic waste.

PET can be recovered, processed, and transformed into new products without losing its quality, making it safe for food contact.

This process reduces the need for new plastic production and lowers CO₂ emissions, fostering a virtuous cycle that protects the environment and revalues waste as a valuable resource.

How Pandora applies the circular economy

The circular economy is a sustainable model that reduces waste and pollution by promoting reuse and recycling. Pandora plays a key role in this virtuous loop, identifying the most suitable materials and optimizing product engineering for this specific practice.

Today, PET has the most efficient supply chain, from collection to reintroduction into the market, with regraded granules even certified for food contact.
Pandora has gained extensive expertise in using rPET, making it a reference point for its application. Additionally, Pandora holds a European patent (EP3747316: Injection process for the production of PET and rPET articles), which overcomes technical limitations in the process and makes the reuse of this material economically viable.
Commission Regulation (EU) 2022/1616, dated September 15, 2022, sets the guidelines for recycled plastic materials and objects intended for food contact. As technology and market availability continue to evolve, Pandora’s role is to engineer commissioned products to align with the most suitable food-proof materials available.
Pandora utilizes all materials classified as “green,” “sustainable,” or “eco-friendly.” This includes processing biopolymers (biodegradable and/or compostable materials), bio-based plastics, regenerated resins, by-products, and recycled plastics.
